Research & Development

Central Research Laboratory

The Central Research Laboratory is at the heart of NPU's research and development, and is an R&D center that is pursuing the limitless potential of polyurethane resin. The Central Research Laboratory is designed to be an open laboratory that directly taps into user needs, and by listening to what users have to say, is engaged in the speedy development of applications preempting user needs.

  • Basic research involving the use of analysis and testing devices like scanning probing microscopes and LC-TOF/MS.
  • Evaluation of the workability of resins using the various types of foaming and molding machines actually used in real-life production processes.
  • Development of applications that leverage the biocompatibility of polyurethane and its functionality in promoting resource conservation.

Nanyo Plant

NPU's main manufacturing base is at its Nanyo Division, located adjacent to the beautiful Inland Sea in the midwestern part of Japan. The Nanyo site totals 15.3 ha in area and, following repeated expansions since it inauguration in 1962, production capacity of isocyanate and derivatives has become the largest in Asia. Operations at this plant also include research work for process improvements and various engineering projects. With our ceaseless technology innovations, we support our customers in moving new products to market faster than the competition. In addition, In addition, safety is a major concern for our Nanyo Division, and a zero-accident, zero-injury policy is strictly adhered to, to ensure a safe and favorable environment for our people and the local community.
